Steps to Revival

In a daily walk with Christ, any believer can experience Revival. Today, you might be wondering what the steps to Revival are.

Today, we will look in depth at the five steps every believer should follow to experience Revival in their Christian walk.

Before we start, let’s pray:

God of our Salvation, we thank You for this opportunity You gave us today. We thank You and ask You to open our spiritual eyes so that we can understand better the steps to Revival we must follow. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

Before we look deeper into the steps to Revival, let’s first see the definition of “revival.”

According to Google’s AI Overview, here is how “revival” is defined:

“In the Bible, “revival” signifies a spiritual awakening, a renewal of faith and devotion, and a restoration of God’s presence among believers. “

As we can see from the definition above, “revival” is a spiritual awakening. In other words, “revival” is the turning point in a Christian’s life.

As one experiences revival, they will start experiencing supernatural maturity in their walk with Christ.

Often, whenever we hear the term “revival,” we automatically assume it’s about a Church awakening. However, we fail to understand that Revival must start from one individual life before the entire Church is affected.

So today, we will focus more on the steps to Revival in one person’s life.

Let’s study how we can stir up this individual spiritual awakening.

Below, we will focus on five steps to Revival an individual should follow to experience a complete spiritual awakening.

As we learn about different steps to Revival, please pay close attention to the first step:

1. Prayer and Fasting

One of the most powerful steps to Revival is prayer and fasting. Throughout the Bible, God changed situations when people fasted and prayed.

Today, let’s study one particular type of fasting that will bring a change to your Christian walk in a tangible way.

In the Book of Esther, we see how the nation of Israel prayed and fasted, pleading for God’s rescue. As a result, the LORD rescued them from the person who wanted to annihilate them.

Before we continue, let’s read the passage where Queen Esther and her people decided to fix their issue through prayer and fasting.

"15 Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai:
16 "Go and gather together all the Jews of Susa and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same. And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die.""
-Esther‬ ‭4‬:‭15‬-‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

As mentioned, we will discuss a particular type of prayer and fasting today. This type of prayer is called closed-in or Locked-in prayer.

So, during this type of prayer, someone willingly takes time away from everyone and everything. Then, this person locks themselves in a quiet room and spends time in the presence of the LORD.

When people do closed-in prayer, they give God’s full attention so that He can speak to them, heart to heart.

Let’s use this testimony below to see how powerful these prayers work.

Recently, I have known someone whom Satan spiritually attacked. For months, these attacks were a burden to them. And it got to the point where they couldn’t read the Bible as before.

Fortunately, the Holy Spirit revealed that the enemy was attacking them. Therefore, the Holy Spirit instructed them to take some time and do a three-day closed-in prayer.

So when this person did the three closed-in prayer and fasting, they only had one prayer request to present to God. During those three days of fasting and prayer, this person read the Bible and remained quiet (silent retreat).

The reason was that they wanted to give God their full attention; therefore, remaining silent and feeding themselves with the Word of God was the only desire they had.

So, here is what their prayer request sounded like: “Recharge me! Revive me, O God, for I am spiritually, emotionally, and physically drained. I am not going to ask you for anything else besides that. Because by faith, I know that You won’t let me leave this place the same way I came in. By faith, I know that You will recharge me and fix all the other issues I am facingnow. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen!”

As expected, the LORD revived their spiritual life and removed all the emotional brokenness they felt before.

So, God can revive and mature your spiritual life within these closed-in prayers and fasting.

As of today, please ask God to create time and space for you to spend time in His presence, away from the crowd and all the noise.

Now, let’s find out what the second step to Revival is.

2. Let the word of God sink deep into your own heart first

The verse below explains how the Word of God should become a priority in our daily lives.

"10 Then he added, "Son of man, let all my words sink deep into your own heart first. Listen to them carefully for yourself.
11 Then go to your people in exile and say to them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says!' Do this whether they listen to you or not.""
-Ezekiel‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Logically speaking, it wouldn’t make sense for someone who can’t swim to volunteer to be a lifeguard at a public pool.

So, spiritually speaking, this illustration above shows how every Christian should allow the Word of God to transform them first.

The second step to Revival is to study the Word of God and meditate on it. As you meditate on it daily, let it take deep roots and transform your spiritual life completely.

Now let’s dive into the third step:

3. Walk in the paths of the LORD

In the Bible, we see how God gave the Ten Commandments to the nation of Israel through Moses.

So, this third step to Revival teaches us to abide by God’s rules in everything we do.

Let’s read the verse below before we continue:

"9 Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the LORD are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths, sinners stumble and fall."
-Hosea‬ ‭14‬:‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

As we just read from this verse above, living by walking in the paths of the LORD is beneficial to believers. In other words, the paths of the LORD are His commandments or laws.

Also, the verse we just read warns us of what could happen if we choose not to walk in the paths of the LORD.

So, as we train ourselves to obey God’s commands, may His Holy Spirit give us the ability to put them into practice.

Now, let’s take a look at the fourth step to Revival.

4. Set Godly boundaries

As we learn from this story, we will see how each believer is responsible for setting godly boundaries.

We often meet believers who are unwilling to set godly boundaries.

Sometimes, believers fear discrimination once they set those godly boundaries. Unfortunately, not having godly boundaries, a believer may become lukewarm.

May the LORD help us so that we won’t get blown away by every wind. Instead, we should let Him teach us what godly boundaries we must have so that we can stir up spiritual awakening.

"8 But Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods."
-Daniel‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

To emphasize this point, let me illustrate my testimony with you.

A couple of years ago, the LORD asked me to stop watching movies and some shows and listening to secular music. At first, I couldn’t understand why the LORD God would not allow me to continue enjoying movies and secular music anymore.

So, one day, the LORD explained why He forbade me from watching movies and listening to secular music.

Here is a summary of what He revealed to me:

My daughter, I am asking you to stop watching movies and listening to secular music so that I can finally renew your mind completely.

Just pay attention to what you are watching, my daughter. Two out of the three movies that you watch weekly promote beliefs that are contrary to the Word of God. And please pay attention to the type of music you are listening to. Are these lyrics glorifying God?

So stay away from these things, for they contradict my Word.”

During that time, I took time to survey the type of beliefs that I was feeding myself. Then I realized the LORD was right; I needed to shut down everything for Him to renew my mind.

Here is what I discovered:

• Two out of the three movies that I was watching promoted abortion, sex outside marriage, witchcraft activities, and homosexuality.

• The secular music that I used to listen to diminished the value of a woman’s body and promoted drugs, sexual immorality, and alcohol.

So after I discovered what the LORD exposed to me, I decided to stay away from anything that would defile me or compromise my belief. And from that time, I matured spiritually at a fast pace.

I hope my testimony will help you understand how important setting godly boundaries is.

So today, make up your mind and be determined not to defile yourself by indulging yourself in beliefs that are against the Bible.

May the LORD help us. Amen!

Down to the last step to Revival:

5. Trust that God will speak on your behalf

The Three Hebrew Boys is one of my favorite stories from the Bible. In my walk with the LORD, I gradually learned how to trust God by studying the story of the three Hebrew boys.

This story will show how deep faith in God will rescue us from challenging situations.

Here is a summary of what happened for those unfamiliar with this story. In a kingdom called Babylon, a king forced three Hebrew boys to worship idols. These three young men refused to obey the king; consequently, the king threw them into a blazing furnace.

Let’s read the part where they boldly and with so much confidence refused to obey the king who was asking them to sin against God.

"16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you.
17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty.
18 But even if he doesn't, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.""
-Daniel‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

You may wonder how you can relate to this story. Or how is this one of the five steps to Revival?

Studying this story shows how strong faith in God will enable you to trust Him. And after that, you will come to discover God’s character.

So, from the story we just read, we see how God rescues those who trust Him. As you gradually learn how to remain loyal to God, in due time, He will revive or rescue your life, no matter the issues you will be facing.

Starting today, make it a priority not to shrink back when faced with compromising situations. Instead, remain loyal to God, stand firm, and He will speak on your behalf.

Conclusion

In summary, here is what we learned regarding how to stir up Revival in our walk with Christ.

1. Prayer and Fasting: Everything you do should start with prayer. Spending time in a closed-in prayer will shift the atmosphere, and you will be able to discover what hinders your spiritual maturity.

2. Let the Word of God sink deep into your own heart first: For your spirit man to revive or mature, you must feed him the Word of God daily.

3. Walk in the paths of the LORD: Obey God’s commandments even if you may not necessarily agree with them now. As you do so, the LORD God will soften your heart until you embrace His laws willingly and joyfully.

4. Set Godly boundaries: The renewal of the mind happens when we decide to clear out the way. And allow God to work on us.

5. Trust that God will speak on your behalf: As you allow God to transform you, please don’t try to explain yourself when you meet people who fight your transformation.

As we end today’s topic, I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you throughout this transformation journey. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen!
